Re: Summer Program Cancelation

Date: May 18, 2020

Dear Summer Program Families,

I am announcing that Cornerstone Evangelical Baptist Church has made the decision to not offer any summer programming for Summer 2020. The various pertinent government agencies have shared very few clear guidelines on how to reopen a K-8 summer school and from the small amount of guidance that exists, we feel that none of our summer programs would provide the same type of great education, experience and service you would have expected from previous years.

The administrators and supervisors predicted a very strict and non-interactive environment and most importantly, an atmosphere where no relationships could be built. Basically, the predicted programming was not going to be enjoyable for anyone. There were no plans for field trips or large group activities and many of the elective activities like cooking and group sports would have been removed from the curriculum due to social distancing or the prevention of exposing vapor droplets to your child.

We understand that this may be a childcare hardship for families, but we only hope it will be a temporary one for this summer as this pandemic has been unprecedented. Our definition of “normal” is being challenged in all areas of life. Our priority is for the safety of our students, parents, and employees and thus has guided our decision to cancel all summer programs. We believe we would be delivering a subpar experience for your child in order to adhere to the guidelines set. As this pandemic continues, it would be best to try to keep your children at home as long as possible until we get better directions from the government experts.

With this recent decision, our business office is poised to automatically refund all currently registered families the summer program tuition that has been deposited. There will be no need for you to request a refund. Uncashed checks will be voided and shredded. Registration fees paid by check will be refunded back to the checking account via EFT and in all other cases, a manual check will be mailed to the address on the registration form.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and we pray for you and your family’s safety and health during this pandemic.

Mr. Derrick Wong
