Cornerstone Academy was founded by Cornerstone Evangelical Baptist Church in 1975. It is a tuition-based school that includes Pre-K through 12th grade with a total of a thousand plus students. It encourages students to grow not only academically, but also as total persons. Its High School department has just started an English-as-a second-language program, grants F1 visas and provides boarding facilities.

Cornerstone Academy of San Francisco, CA (http://www.cornerstone-acdemy.net) has openings for a suitably qualified teacher of English as a second language, a 2nd Grade Teacher and a 3rd Grade Teacher. Each position is for a one-year period commencing August 19, 2009. The contract will be renewed upon satisfactory evaluation of performance.

For the ESL Position, Applicant’s qualifications and experience
A.Academic: an M.A. degree (or internationally recognized equivalent) in the area of teaching English as a second/foreign language or some closely related field; or a B.A. degree and single-subject credential in English with an emphasis on bilingual or ESL teaching.
B.Experience: Some experience in teaching English, particularly at the secondary level, would be an advantage.
C.Personal: Interest in working with students of diverse backgrounds, particularly having a good understanding of Asian cultures.

Classroom Teacher’s Job Description
Faculty members are privileged to serve our Father in Heaven as they go about the work of preparing children for life. Their commitment to Jesus Christ and to excellence in education contribute to the success of the school and its students. As they go through each day, they are mindful of Jesus’ parable of the talents (Luke 19:11-27), using the talents that God has given them to serve Him well so that some day they will hear in heaven, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23) The aspects of this service may be summarized as follows:
1. Educational Foundations
a. Views teaching as a calling and a mission and demonstrates a zeal for the opportunity he/she has to serve in the kingdom of God.
b. Displays a professional attitude—lifelong pursuit of knowledge and truth, staying abreast of his/her field(s) (e.g., early childhood education, Bible, science, mathematics, social sciences).
i. Treats every person as created in God’s image.
ii. the necessity of the whole body working together.
iii. Accepts the need to follow those put in leadership roles.
iv. Sees the big picture of life (not the sum of isolated pieces). Displays subject matter within the context of the Biblical world view.
2. Student and Classroom Management
a. Clearly communicates to students and parents the course outcomes and standards of assessment for those outcomes.
b. Maintains effective discipline.
c. Effectively uses time and routines.
d. Effectively uses space and class arrangements (including room appearance).
e. Is aware of all that is happening with his/her class as a whole.
f. Interacts with every student in a caring and loving manner.
g. Ensures that:
i. Students demonstrate respectful behavior.

iii. Students interact positively outside the classroom.
h. Enforces school policies and directives.

3. Instructional Effectiveness
a. Adapts instruction to different learning abilities, responding to the needs of the whole student (emotional, spiritual, moral, social, physical, as well as intellectual).
b. Builds positive and productive rapport with students.
c. Adjusts instruction based on dynamic assessment.
d. Incorporates current educational ideas and events.
e. Effectively uses learning techniques such as integration, motivation, reinforcement, and higher level questioning as well as memory techniques.
f. Uses a variety of effective and challenging teaching methods, assessments, and resources, including technology.
g. Engages students’ minds and hearts, expanding the horizons of the students.
h. Makes all instruction meaningful in terms of a Biblical worldview.
i. Provides opportunities for response and application of Biblical truths.
j. Instructs toward and assesses the attainment of the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR's).
k. Uses proper and articulate language.
l. Uses effective questioning strategies to direct and assess the understanding of all students.
m. Utilizes the results of standardized tests to improve instruction.
4. Curriculum Development
a. Designs and develops curriculum to lead to the attainment of the ESLR's.
b. Revises and develops curriculum in response to observation of student growth. (Curriculum is not static.)
c. Sets relevant and valid curricular outcomes in lesson planning.
d. Incorporates a variety of assessments (summative and dynamic) within the planning process.
e. Develops comprehensive units that are powerful, impacting, relevant, rigorous, purposeful, and measurable.
5. Professional Collaboration
a. Utilizes his/her gifts and knowledge for the benefit of the school as a whole, collaborating and sharing with other teachers and administrators (i.e., volunteering for committees, mentoring other teachers, accepting leadership roles).
b. Collaborates in curriculum revision and program assessment.
c. Actively supports and adheres to department policies (i.e., dress code, punctuality, etc.) and standards, including submitting required forms and reports, maintaining all credentials and records, respecting deadlines, attending meetings, and fulfilling departmental assignments.
d. Shows respect to all church and school staff and interacts professionally.
e. Maintains conduct that is not detrimental to the school.
6. Family Outreach
a. Assists parents in understanding the distinctive goals of the school.
b. Utilizes opportunities to communicate with parents the progress of their child.
c. Promotes church and school activities.
d. Communicates in a timely, effective, and polite manner.
