EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Teacher expectations impact student learning. The instructional program not only
sets high standards, but also recognizes student diversity in learning styles and rate
of achievement. The goal of developing students to their highest potentials is
achieved by making explicit intended outcomes of the course work, delineating the
building blocks to reach those outcomes, consistently assessing student progress
towards the outcomes, and giving assistance as needed.
Our curriculum and recommended course of study exceed most minimum
requirements of most major colleges and universities. We also provide a balanced
education by exposing the students to the fine arts, such as drawing and music.
Being a Christian school, we mandate that students take classes that would broaden
their understanding of the Bible and the role it plays in their lives. We also provide
students opportunities to use technology in and out of the classroom to prepare them
for the digital world. Physical fitness and health are essential to the students' well
being and are mandatory classes for them. As you can see, the School wants to
provide a "comprehensive" education for the student.
SCHOOL HISTORY
Cornerstone Academy (formerly Little Lights Preschool) was founded in 1975 and is
sponsored by Cornerstone Evangelical Baptist Church. The goal of the School is to
provide a loving environment for students to develop as total persons - intellectually,
socially, physically, and spiritually.
Cornerstone Academy provides a safe and conducive learning environment for preschool
through high school students.
We welcome your child to our School, and we are sure the learning experiences will be
happy and wholesome. As parents, you are cordially invited to visit, ask questions, and
make suggestions. The best assurance for the success of your child is the close
cooperation and understanding of the School's expectations, procedures, and goals.
The academic program emphasizes the mastery of reading, writing, oral communication,
math and the cognitive skills as well as the disciplines of science, history, social studies,
music, art, and physical education.
The School seeks to help each student grow and develop in knowledge and appreciation
of Christian principles, develop positive relationships with others, and improve confidence
and self-esteem.
The entire staff has taken this ministry as a way of serving our Lord Jesus Christ through
service to the students.
MISSION STATEMENT
To guide students toward excellence in academic, social, physical, and spiritual
development based on Christian principles.
To prepare students for productive lives as responsible citizens in a free and
competitive society.
To create and develop a community of mutual support comprised of the School,
the students' families, and Cornerstone Evangelical Baptist Church.
Junior Pre-School Admissions Criteria
Our pre-school program is an all day program for your young ones (7AM - 6PM). Half of the day
instruction is in Chinese (Cantonese) and for the other half of the day, instruction is in English.
Your child receives breakfast and lunch and an afternoon snack as part of the tuition. The
curriculum is a unique balance of academics, indoor and outdoor play, fine arts, and character
development. To complete the whole day, the children also have a nap time in the early
afternoon.
With our youngest students, our staff understands the need to train your child, but at the same
time, our staff understands the love and care and reassurance your child needs as they are away
from their parents for the very first time.
Minimum Age Requirement: Child must be 3 years old on or before December 2nd. (Mid-year
enrollment is possible for December birthdays, but junior pre-school must be repeated the
following year)
