Nowhere to Run

Wendy Wong and Vivian Wu

The Middle School Musical was on Friday at 3:30 PM and Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Little Theatre of the Cambridge site. The musical, “Nowhere to Run,” was based on Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son. The parable is about a greedy son who became tired of waiting for his father to die. The father had two sons, one was really greedy and the other always obeyed and loved his father. One day, the greedy son asked his father for the inheritance he would receive after his father dies. After his father gave him the money, he ran away and spent all of his money on parties. When he had no money left, he lived a farm and cleans up after the pigs eats with pigs. Soon, he realized that he missed his father and went home. At home, his father welcomed him with open arms and a welcoming party. Because his father welcomed him home although he greedily ran away, the other brother wondered why his father had accepted him back; therefore, he was jealous. But his father replies that he is happy because he found his lost son.

The musical was about a boy named Josh who becomes tired of his so called “good Christian life” and joins a gang whose leader is called Sledge. His family members and friends earnestly try to stop him from the decision to leave, but despite all their warnings Josh ignores them and goes his own way, quitting his job to join the gang. Just when everything appeared hopeless for Josh, the church prays for him and miraculously he returns to repent his mistakes.

This is a truly heart warming story inspired by the parable. The musical performers touched the hearts of the audience with the message of the songs and the drama. Several viewers accepted Christ with the encouragement to accept the message through the sermon by Reverend Crook.

The musical highlights included the songs: Rock Around the Clock, The Popular Crowd, I Can’t Do That, Check Your Connection, Without You, The Battle Belongs to the Lord, Amazing Grace, If You Need Someone, Nowhere to Run and Great is Your Faithfulness (To Your Children, Lord). Dancing and a drama were part of the musical.

Congratulations on the performance, Mrs. Jong-Yip and the participants. Your presentation was excellent as well as enjoyable.
