High School Christmas
Winnie Chan
The day before the Christmas break the Cornerstone Academy High School students had a day of singing and fun. They started out the day with the Middle School students in an assembly singing some Christmas songs and carols and receiving a message from Mr. C. Wong, who was leading the assembly. After the assembly, the High School and Middle School students split off to do the activities that were planned for the day.
The High School students got ready to leave school and travel to Laguna Honda Hospital where they would be caroling to the residents. When everyone arrived they were greeted by the volunteer cordinator and he gave some instructions and rules about behavior in the Hospital. The groups then split off and went to their designated area for caroling. The residents enjoyed the presence of the High School students. The students not only sang to the residents, they also interacted with the residents, sang the songs with them and talking with them. When the caroling was done, the students helped bring the residents back to where they were staying, and then gathered outside to wait until everyone finished. There were some students who volunteered their time to stay behind at the hospital instead of going with the rest of the group to watch the movie. They helped wheel/bring the residents to the concert that was being held there.
The students that were going to watch the movie prepared to travel downtown where they would watch The Nativity Story, which is the story of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ being born. Before the movie, the students went to eat lunch at various places around downtown. After eating they all met at the Metreon for the movie. When everyone arrived at Metreon they went in and watched the movie. When the movie ended, the people who had permission to leave from Metreon left, while the remaining people returned to school.
The whole day was a success and a big THANKS goes to Amanda Chi who organized the whole day.
Middle School Christmas

Whoo! It’s almost Christmas Break! On the final day before the break, the middle school students had a fun filled last day. In the morning of this day, everybody headed to the Chapel to sing carols! We sang many of the much known songs that people in the world don’t sing anymore. But to warm up our souls for this WONDERFUL holiday, we did. The carols that we sang were: Jingle Bell Rock, Away in the Manger, Joy to the World, Deck the Halls, and much, much more soul warming Christmas Songs and Carols. After singing these carols to celebrate Jesus’ birth, we had a wonderful lesson about the true meaning of Christmas.
After Chapel, some of the Middle School students went to the courtyard to have free play. After a morning full of running around, playing volleyball, basketball, and tag, everybody went to their homerooms for a traditional White Elephant. Some students were pleased with what they received, but some weren’t as pleased with what they received. But that doesn’t really matter, because that’s not what Christmas is all about. After White Elephant, it was LUNCH TIME! The seventh grade students had a Potluck in Miss V. Lee’s room. The food went away really quickly!
Finally when lunch was over, it was time for what many people were waiting for the entire day. It was Movie Time! The movie that the sixth and seventh grade students watched was Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade. This movie was about a man named, Indiana, trying to find the Holy Grail and his Father. He meets a woman named Elsa, who was trying to get him to find the Holy Grail for her. All she wanted was eternal life, nothing else. When Indiana found the Holy Grail, he also finds one of the three brothers that had already found the Holy Grail before him. There was a man named Walter Donovan who tricked Indiana in retrieving the Holy Grail for him. Yet, he took the wrong cup and perished. Indiana took the right cup, and helped saved his Father from dying, because Donovan shot him. This movie tells us a lot about how we should not be selfish and want everything for ourselves because sooner or later, you will perish, just like Donovan!
