High School Christian Heritage Day

By: Raymond Yu

At Cornerstone Academy, we do not celebrate Halloween. Instead, we celebrate Christian Heritage Day. On Tuesday, October 31 st 2006, we celebrated Christian Heritage Day. On this day, the whole school had a relaxed dress code. For High school students, this day was full of fun activities because they did not have any classes.

When school started, all of the middle school and High school students went to the chapel. It was like regular chapel but the students did not have bibles, hymnals, or blazers. High school Junior student, Daniel Xie told us about his Christian heritage appreciation. The students were also given bible verses to reflect upon.

After the chapel service was over, the middle school students left the chapel. The high school students watched X-Men 3: The Last Stand in the chapel. This movie was related to the high school theme for the day which was “Are You Blessed.” When the movie was over, students were separated into groups and answered questions related to the movie and theme. We were given one hour to discuss the questions and in 10 min many of the groups finished, leaving 40 min to do nothing. The students then went to lunch.

A few days earlier, there were sign-up sheets posted in the high school room. Students were given a choice of 3 games: Scene-It, Floor Hockey, and Life and Death. Students had to sign up for 2 games, one for first block, and one of second block. After lunch, the High school students were separated into groups for the first block. Scene It was in the library, Floor Hockey was in the Recreation room, and Life and Death was in the Gym. After block one, the students went to their second block and participated in the next activity. As soon as the second block was over the students were dismissed.

Middle School Christian Heritage Day!

By: Carrie Huang

Ahhh.... Christian Heritage Day is finally here again. In the morning of this wonderful day, all of the Middle school and High School students gathered in the chapel to sing praises to the Lord, which warmed up our souls. And of course, the wonderful message that Mr. C. Wong gave us about God’s love is really encouraging for mostly everybody! But… before that, the wonderful High school choir sang a lovely song called “Sing When the Spirit Says, ‘Sing’.” Of course, that’s not the ONLY song, everybody also sang: Open the Eyes of my Heart, Blessed Be Your Name, Unashamed Love, Cry Holy, One Way, Who am I, and Saving Grace.

After this wonderful soul warming morning, it was time for the wonderful activities, everybody’s favorite. Everybody played 4 games in the morning well, at least before lunch. The four games were: Scene It (Miss V.Lee and Mr. Taliaferro,) the Signature Game (Mr. D. Chan,) Pictionary (Mrs. Erica,) and Trivia Pursuit for kids (Mrs. Hom & Mr. Dudum) many of the eight grade students also helped out with the games. You all did a great job, THANKS!

After lunch, all of the Middle School students went back to their homerooms and created a poster of a Bible character that their homeroom teacher passed out. They had only one hour to do it, but it was plenty of time. There were many wonderful creations of many unknown and known characters in the Bible.

Finally when this biblical activity was over, it was time for all of the 6 th and 7 th grade students to watch a MOVIE! The movie was Akeelah and the Bee. Akeelah and the Bee was pretty inspiring because Akeelah, the protagonist, was determined to excel on her spelling. In the beginning, if she misspelled something, she would get frustrated, but when her coach, Javier, helped her control this, Akeelah ended up spelling more than 5,000 words.

This movie shows us how much God loves us and would want to help us if we end up in the wrong path. Akeelah wanted to quit, but Javier helped her regain her strength, just like how God would regain our strength when we fall and struggle.
